Brian Sandoval R-Gov, Nev, is an e.g. of a moderate who would fill the bill

being talked about here. I mention Sandoval because I believe he's also had experience as a judge. He is not a right wing fringest. There are other Republicans like that. That kind of a move would confront the GOP leadership in the Senate with a real dilemma.
