Youngkin’s comment is extremely anti-first amendment
On CNN Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin spoke about the protests stating, "First we have to begin with the fact that freedom of expression and peacefully demonstrating is at the heart of our First Amendment and we must protect it. But But that does not go to in fact intimidating Jewish students in preventing them from attending class and, and using annihilation speech to express deeply anti semitic views.”
The first amendment does protect annihilation speech to express deeply antisemitic views. The entire point of the first amendment is to protect people from the government’s view on what is acceptable speech. If it’s not a threat, it’s all acceptable. Even hate speech (and I have no clue if the protesters even ventured into hate speech- but that doesn’t matter from a first amendment perspective). It’s good to clear up that right wing bitching about the first amendment was all a lie. They want their speech protected and fuck everyone else.
