The rise and power of religious fundamentalism, internet disinformation, failures in public education. But the bottom line is that for some people, intellectualism and reason are threatening or make them feel belittled, when we went through a period after WWII where Americans aspired to and admired people who were educated and rational. Now we promote cranks and liars because it makes us feel better.

This is one of the biggest threats from a new Trump presidency. Up is down. Black is white. The sky is whatever color I say it is.
