Is in place. And guaranteeing they won’t go into Rafah leaves Hamas in control of Gaza. The Biden admin is not insisting on that. They are insisting that they not be willing to kill as many civilians as needed to get at Hamas battalions.

But 10/7 continues to be like 10 9/11s were to us. Israel can’t simply cede Rafah to Hamas. I’m not sure exactly how they go about this, but I know for sure they should not unilaterally guarantee safe haven in Rafah for Hamas, and then cross their fingers and hope the hostages will follow. In all honestly, with all my concerns about the carnage, it really isn’t an option to allow the perpetrators of the savagery on 10/7 to escape consequences and remain free to act, because they could use the hostages they took as part of their savagery as leverage.

In Israel’s shoes, no American would accept that.
