Partisanship. The face of the dem party is the president who’s first act after 10/7 was to fly to Israel to embrace Netanyahu, and which continues to funnel aid to Israel. The protest in the link is the face of the people who voted “uncommitted” in the Mich primary - if they vote at all.

I think this piece far more thoughtfully describes the general dem position, not just the far left. Friedman’s really good. The upshot: if you really support the Palestinians, you oppose Hamas, you don’t chant their slogans, and you want them marginalized and power flowing to a reconstituted Palestinian Authority of technocrats who can govern, rather than of factions. And if you truly support Israel, you know that the IDF is doing Hamas’ wet work for them - the carnage in Gaza is completely opposed to Israel’s strategic interests. They cannot win this conflict this way. Every dead Palestinian child is a victory for Hamas.

Further, the far right of Israel, which is pulling Bibi’s strings, is much more like Hamas than different. Both want control from the river to the sea, both want the other side removed one way or another, so really, both wind up conspiring to keep the status quo. Bibi and the far right have been accused by Israeli interests of helping prop up Hamas in Gaza, and Fatah in the WB, to keep them divided.

Yet aid continues to flow to Israel from this admin. That’s the face of the dem party. But last week really shined a spotlight on the recklessness with which Israel’s conducted this war. Note for months Israel claimed it was the UN preventing sufficient aid into the strip. Yet, when Biden read them the riot act last Thursday, aid suddenly increased significantly. Further knock on the Bibi govt credibility in terms of preventing a humanitarian catastrophe.

These protestors really aren’t the face of anything but an extreme. If you’re really supportive of Israel, you want the Biden admin to harden its stance. The way Israel is conducting this war will not lead to increased security, or a path to peace. It can only lead to generations of continued conflict. That’s what the current israeli far right wants - until the Palestinians are gone. In that sense, they are a carbon copy of Hamas. In a way, these Dearborn protests are a reflection of both Hamas, and the Israeli far right. All those parties are looking for endless war and death.
