It’s security vs a whole bunch of other concerns.
What kind of slippery slope are we on when banning specific foreign companies? It runs against our free enterprise bonafides. It’s not JUST kids liking it - people make their livings on the app. I also know far more tech savvy folks than I who think it’s not really possible. Just like savvy Russians and Chinese access banned apps, using vpns or something, that’ll happen here.
There really are competing concerns on this issue. Given how careless most of us are in our online lives, I’m not sure the ban would do much good anyway. It probably will piss off a lot of young voters this year though.
