I'd say the difference is that...
...the Democrat Party machinery and its supporters have coalesced around Biden, even going so far as to prohibit competitors from entering the primary race (e.g., RFK, Jr.). I understand that their hands are tied a bit by 1) incumbency and 2) The Kamala Problem, but, still, it's amazing that they may just go with Dementia Joe again after failing to find a better alternative.
In contrast, VOTERS chose Trump over the objection -- explicit or implicit -- of the GOP party, which would love nothing more than to be done with Orange Man Bad. The old GOP basically doesn't exist any longer and, even if it did, it can't produce a candidate that its nominal supporters want, so we get Trump, who voices their same concerns. Haley, whom I know you support, would have been a viable candidate up through, say, 2012, but those days are as over as the old GOP.
