UF just canned the entire DEI department to comply with Florida law

$5M per year in savings which can now be spent on recruiting top faculty. UF is already just one spot behind UVA in the US News rankings.

I do think diversity of thought is an important aspect to a well rounded education (and probably only achievable if your students have diversity of backgrounds), but unfortunately DEI departments as practiced have become cauldrons of awful ideas. I'd prefer they "re-boot"/re-staff the department instead of eliminate it, but I don't know what that looks like or where to even find sane people to run it.
