I love the idea, but I suspect the sad truth is that the IRS


Can’t pull it off without a major systems integration and software development initiative.
As silly as it may sound in 2024, I’m betting they don’t have a relational database that pulls in all W-2, reported interest, reported dividends income to one place where it can be managed and fed into tax return (much less of course, medical, interest, tax, charitable, deduction, expenses, which only applies to people, not taking the standard deduction, so not relevant to majority of taxpayers).
But I still think it’s a good idea, they just need to invest in the work to pull it off. Just having the reported, income information preloaded into a tax return is an improvement, the ability to have a pre-completed full return for those who use standard deduction is a bigger improvement.
