I had four close encounters while driving today, none of which was my fault.

In the most dangerous, I was driving on a 2-lane residential road near my neighborhood. I signaled to take a left onto another 2-lane road that leads to my neighborhood entrance. Directly in front of me in the oncoming lane was a minivan that was signaling to turn left across me into an apartment complex. I knew and suspected the van driver knew that this is a tricky open intersection. She was being especially cautious seeing that I was also turning left from the opposite direction. But there was an F-350 barreling down the hill behind the minivan. I could see that the truck driver wasn’t slowing. Based on my experience at this spot, I suspected, correctly, that the Ford truck driver would continue at full speed and illegally go around the turning minivan on the van’s right by going over the solid white line. Seeing this dangerous scenario develop in front of me, I slowed and had to come to a stop (thankfully) before proceeding with my left turn. The car that was riding my sedan’s ass on this narrow 2-lane road, apparently, disagreed with my defensive maneuver. He laid on his horn and flipped me off rather aggressively. I wasn’t surprised. But our cars were in one piece. What the flipper should have done was immediately stop me, thank me for saving him from having his speedy car totaled, and bought me a $25 gift card at Panera. (I hate Panera).
