I was sitting in the left turn lane at a light earlier today (there were two left turn lanes and I was in the rightmost left turn lane because I would need to take a right pretty quickly after turning left). The light changes and traffic in the leftmost lane proceeds to turn, but a van 2 cars in front of me doesn't move. So the guy immediately in front of me lays on the horn but the van still doesn't move. Now everyone in our lane is laying on their horns, but still nothing.

So the guy in front of me proceeds to start backing up. I can't back up because I have a car right up on my ass. But the guy in front of me keeps coming and is going to hit me so I lay on my horn. He misses hitting me by inches, but I guess my honking set him off so he jumps out of the car and and walks towards my car fairly aggressively and says "What's the problem?". So I said, "Well, you were about to back into my car so I honked my horn". I guess he realized he was being the idiot because he then turns his ire to the "idiot in the van who won't move". I suggested the guy in the van might be having car trouble. He counters with "the guy in the van is probably an illegal immigrant". Huh? I ignore it, but suggest that he get back in his car so we can move into the left lane to get around the van before the left lane fills up with traffic again. As he turns to get back into his car, the van proceeds to pull forward. So he stays behind the white van in the rightmost left turn lane. I'm not taking any chances, and move to the left turn lane anyway. So the light turns green again, and once again, the white van just sits there. I go on my merry way, to the sound of more horns in the background. I'll be sure to check the local news for reports of a fist fight at this intersection.

When it was over, I asked my wife who was sitting next to me the whole time... "was it just me, or was that guy pretty aggressive in walking up on me like that'... and she said "oh, he was totally looking for a fight". What an idiot. First of all, it's Florida, and I could have shot the guy and probably gotten away with it under "stand your ground". But even absent the threat of being shot (which is very real in Florida), this was an out of shape guy in his late 50s/early 60s who looked like he may have been a tough guy at one point in his life (bald head, goatee, tattoos), but would probably get his ass kicked by half the guys out there on the road. What the hell is he thinking getting out of his car like that and aggressively confronting another driver?
