I think it makes an excellent case for why we’re so much more religious
Than any other developed country. I think he does a poor job of explaining how that makes us “fantasyland” today, compared with other countries. I think he largely does that by going into dizzying detail about it in the US, with little to no mention of it elsewhere. Brexit, for example, which is far more consequential than any effect of it yet in this country.
Mostly, I think he’s a Protestant who grew up in the ‘60s and is appalled by the evolution of practice of his faith since, and is mostly, and angrily, denouncing and ridiculing it. Which I understand, but the dizzying detail is less than fascinating to me.
