really know enough about Bukele. Some of the political flamboyance (like marching in armed fighters to make a point about a bill he wanted) is too aggressive. Some tactics are too far. But El Salvador has areas run by gang warfare with deep roots. It's a foreign concept to us and I'm not sure how we would balance certain things if trying to live there.

And while Milei certainly seems like an absolute nut on several fronts, he is still brand new - was legit elected - and comes in after decades of complete ineptitude and corruption, mostly with left leaning governments. This is just the reality with Argentina.

People are grasping to try something different -- which of course can lead to despot leaders and odd choices, embracing populism, etc... I just think it's a bit early to analogize these guys to some of the Hall of Fame 20th century global dictators.
