Growing up in Altavista, it was this way until 1968. Same at the doctor,

blacks parked in the back and came up backstairs to a waiting room.

Even after blacks were allowed into restaurants, the restaurants had signs saying - MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE.
