However, it does touch on a major problem of Democrats and moderate ...


Republicans. Somewhere along the way they lost in touch with a third of the country ... so much so, their desperation lead them to a charlatan. They're willing to suspend all reality because they feel ignored / unheard. The Democrats and moderate Republicans need to do a better job reaching out to that third.

The other Trump supporters are just the worst. Americans with an ulterior motive. Some will claim they'll vote for the candidate with the "best policies" while defending Trump at every turn. Some just have abhorrent views who are attracted by Trump's rhetoric.
