I like McCloskey. He challenged Nixon in 1972 on a GOP antiwar platform.

Almost a Republican McGovern, with the look of John Kennedy, hair-wise anyway. But his campaign was quixotic, perhaps even more so than Phillips'. He was a US Marine in the Korean War, beat Shirley Temple Black in the GOP primary for congress, was the first member of Congress to call for Nixon's resignation, helped defeat Pat Robertson, etc.

The guy is still alive at age 96. I would have missed that question in an "alive or dead" contest!
