That aside, the political "spectrum" is not a line, but is instead a circle. Many folks view it as a line with the far right (sometimes called fascists) on one end and the far left (sometimes called communists) on the other end.

In reality, the "spectrum" is instead a circle joined at one point by a nexus of authoritarianism (communism and fascism). At the furthest possible point on that circle from the fascism/communism nexus is laissez-faire/libertarianism. Hitler and Stalin, for example, were really ideological birds of a feather -- they just argued about who should have authoritarian power: The nazis or the communists. They were allies originally, after all.

Long story short, there is no "left" and "right", directionally speaking, at the extremes of political philosophy, as the far left and the far right -- as we use those terms colloquially -- believe in the same thing, which is subjugation of the individual by the collective. Instead, the true political extremes are liberty and tyranny.
