I assume that’s the goal of the international players in this - use diplomacy to make the pause permanent. But that would leave Hamas intact, and Hamas themselves may have no interest in that. They say their goal continues to be the end Israel, meaning they may very well want to continue using Palestinian deaths to drive world opinion against Israel, and are just using this pause to regroup. It’s awfully hard to fight a war against an enemy which wants to kill very last one of your kids, and as many of their own as is needed to turn world opinion towards them. Because they live in a dark fantasy world where kids get to be happiest by dying first and then going to paradise.
