I will give you props for...
...a thoughtful and well-written post. We're obviously not going to see eye-to-eye on this, but I will say the following:
-- I can guarantee you that I have read not only more volume, but also more perspectives and more data, on COVID than you have or most likely anyone else on this board. And I was doing so before it even came ashore here in the U.S., which is why I knew that the shutdown and other steps we were taking would be both useless and ultimately harmful on the whole. My comments aren't 20/20 hindsight -- I was right on the front end.
And, by the way, what "narrative" was anyone on my side "buying into"? There was no "narrative". We were just being mature adults by not losing our heads in the moment while you were spraying Lysol on your groceries, closing beaches and banning children from going to school. We weren't engaging in any "political philosophy" -- we were just using common sense. The politicization of the virus and the "narrative" -- the unwarranted COVID fear porn -- were entirely on your side of the issue. My side's view was simply "do what you want to do to take whatever precautions you like and leave me the fuck alone".
-- Your comment about the steps we took "saving lives" has no basis in fact whatsoever, whereas the damage done by the steps we took is irrefutable, whether it be the kneecapping of kids' educations, the $10 trillion in cumulative debt we'll assume, the destruction of faith in our election system, the acceptance by a large swath of the population of censorship, needlessly terrorizing people -- especially children -- and on and on. Even if the steps we took DID save lives, the positive they did in that regard doesn't come close to outweighing the damage they did in multiple other areas.
I'll leave it there.
