there are still a lot of Republican officeholders across the country--a permanent majority, even, of local officeholders and just shy of a majority of federal ones.

vote distribution is such in this country that that will be the case for a long, long time.

Trump's going to die someday, maybe the fever will break then. (DeSantis has discovered the people won't buy a substitute Trump.) Maybe it will even break after two consecutive Presidential defeats, but it seems to me that there will clearly be a post-Trump era for the Republican Party, and it will probably commence in the next decade at worst given his family longevity/senility history.
