…you get cancer or long-term care insurance after you’ve got Alzheimer’s.
Citizens are responsible for insuring themselves, and they need to do so while they are healthy. If they don’t, then they might save a lot of money on unnecessary premiums, or, alternatively, they might fuck themselves. That’s life.
As an aside there can be special government or charitable programs for the small percentage of people born unhealthy or who get sick as kids before they have a chance to get insurance on their own. But the vast majority of citizens — and the government — would be much better off in a free market-based system than the Rube Goldberg contraption we have now.
