And you just touched on the perhaps the scariest part of it -
at the point you refer to, the system risks becoming self-perpetuating. Elective legislative bodies should never have the ability to draw their own districts. It is the very *definition* of a conflict of interest. Add in a compliant Court system and voila, you’re looking at another decade of total control. And another shot won’t even come until the next census lets you redistrict, and nothing even then will change much absent significant shifts in demographics in that timeframe.
