About half as disproportionate.
The top 1% earns 20% of income but they pay 39% of all income taxes. So they earn 25% as much income in aggregate as the bottom 99%, but pay 64% as much in income taxes in aggregate as the bottom 99%. Footnote: I can't find an updated breakout within the top 5%, but the top 5% earns 36% of income and pays 60% of taxes. So the top 5% pays 50% more in aggregate income taxes than the bottom 95% combined. The breakpoint at which the top percentile pays 50% of the taxes (i.e. as much as everyone else combined) is in the top 2-3% range from previous breakouts I have seen (and that was before the trump tax cuts that made that tax share even more skewed to the top)
I don't even have a problem with this disproportion of share of taxes vs. income... it's how it should be imo, but the notion that somehow high earners aren't paying taxes and the average Joe is picking up the tab instead is just dumb and not supported at all by the numbers.
