We watched "Saving Private Ryan" with my daughter, 14 at that time. During
the Normandy invasion scene, there is a scene of US Soldiers shooting some clearly surrendering Germans. My daughter was probably shocked more by that scene than the shear carnage of the invasion scene overall (I guess we had prepared her that this was going to be perhaps TOO realistic and very scary.) She didn't want to believe that "The Good Guys" would do something like that.
The only answer was essentially "War Sucks." Clarified then that in a war there's often a bad guy (and in WW2 it was CLEARLY, not often), but that doesn't mean that the good guys always behave completely honorably.
