Biden did ok. But the one problem I have is that he's still treating the
GOP like they aren't undemocratic douchebags who enabled Trump's bullshit for four years and continue to do so. I mean, I love the idea of a unity agenda and that there were some moments of bi-partisan agreement, outwardly anyway. But they were right back at it after the speech, on Twitter and other forums, blaming Biden more than Putin for Ukraine, and ignoring their complicity when Trump blamed Ukraine for election interference, when he fired our ambassador there and made Zelenski deal with his personal attorney, and when he withheld military funding to that country in exchange for dirt on a political opponent. Too many of them sympathize with the sentiments being expounded at CPAC as recently as Sunday.
They sat on their hands when Biden mentioned voting rights, telling us we know where they stand. Of course, the white trash Barbie from Colorado couldn't maintain decorum. I know there are some Republicans who are stepping up to the plate at this moment and that there is a bit of an ideological struggle going on there, but we know where the party is headed. Democracy is at stake. Biden did not emphasize this enough. Perhaps he will defer these topics to another time? The GOP will not.
