but as he stated at the time, it was a 20-year long war that no longer reflected current security concerns. I don't recall him saying at the time what was, but he was clearly indicating a resurgent Russia and China. So, I'm glad we're not bogged down in Afghanistan anymore (though it's horrible for them...there is a massive humanitarian crisis going on there partly because the Taliban can't govern their way out of a paper bag, partly because we still are sanctioning them, and mostly because of climate change).

So I think Biden has been just fine. I thought all along, and still think, that he intends to be a one-term president. Hell, he even said so in an interview I saw him do with PBS back in 2017. I think he ran out of a sense of duty and it worked! We beat back Trumpism for the short term anyway. I really have no idea who will be the Democratic nominee in 2024. As an aside, I have ridiculed those on the right who keep talking about Hillary Clinton running again (she ain't), but I have to say I'd love to have her in office during the Ukraine situation, and obviously in 2017-2020. She takes no shit from Russia and she was very tough and pragmatic in an interview with her I say yesterday morning.
