I just don't understand the lack of spine of people in positions

of power. If Ted took a stand against Trump-ism and somehow failed to win re-election as a result, he could easily pull down 7 figures in the private sector. That's not a bad gig. In fact, I'd say it's a better gig. Is the need / addiction to power just that strong?

And it's not just politicians. Our former CEO started with the company early on and made a boatload in stock as the company grew rapidly in the early '00s. He's probably worth $75-$100 million today. But he would let the board push him around and get him to reverse course on tough decisions that needed to be made. Had he stuck to his guns and taken us down the path we needed to go down, I have now doubt it ultimately would have positioned the company in much better shape than it currently is today. The path we took (against the path the CEO was pushing as a result of him bowing to board pressure) ultimately cost him his job anyway. A few years back when this started, I remember thinking, why is he being such a pussy. He has "f u" money... he needs to tell the board what we're doing and if they decide to replace him, then he can go play golf and sit on a beach... or find another CEO job. I just think he was comfortable with his (relative) position of power and didn't want to rock the boat.
