addition to the Cuban angle is that it seems to me that many Latinos are socially conservative with the exception of immigration (and even there, they seem to be less liberal than I would expect). I've seen several interviews where many of them clearly want to be recognized for the diverse group of cultures they are, rather than one culture, and I've also seen interviews where they don't want to be lumped in with other people of color.

W was courting them successfully, and I don't think it would take much to get at least 50% on a fairly consistent basis.
