Able to sue a provider for big bucks. Canada has capped the amount that can be awarded in malpractice cases, the malpractice insurers (they do exist up there) vigorously defend lawsuits against their clients and rarely settle, and the loser of a case has to reimburse the winner the majority of their legal fees. The result is a major disincentive for patients to try and sue for medical malpractice as the upside is limited and the risk of paying a chunk of the insurers legal fees is major downside.

I honestly believe we won't see the cost of healthcare in this country come under control without some similar kind of reform. We can't have single payer with patients able to sue the pants off their doctors.
