To me, part of Bob's charm, is that he is aloof, I think,

from much of his own music. At the very least, not much of his work is really that personal or perhaps vulnerable.

In Time, he goes a lot to loss--Standing in the Doorway. Not Dark Yet all with their plodding, bluesy feel. I just think Bob's brush with mortality left him in a place in which he allowed himself to be emotive throughout (except in Highland and Cold Irons Bound) an LP, taking some responsibility for failure in places where he generally lays blame.

I like Bob's work from Bob Dylan to Together Through Life, and he's always been a lyricist that left a lyric for almost every situation that life presents. And i like his music and even managed to stick with his vocal changes though the years. But (and I really don't have a lot of his Christian era music so I can't talk about that period---strangely enough I didn't get into it because I was with a conservative Christian group at the time), even in his best work like the 3 rock lp's during the 60's, Bob often stood apart--he was the aloof observer in Like a Rolling Stone, or angry Go Away from My Window.....it's YOUR fault.

Time is redemptive for him. The recriminations are his own, and the pain is explored. Anyway, that is my best short answer and the shop is calling to reroute some drawer faces.
