Yeah, but that would be the death of AWS if Amazon did that.
If companies that use AWS don't feel they can trust that their data is secure, I'm pretty sure Microsoft (Azure) or Google Cloud or IBM/Softlayer would welcome disaffected AWS customers with open arms. AWS does have just under 50% of Cloud computing market share, but Microsoft is a sizable 2nd place contender with just under 25% share... And Azure is growing faster than AWS and gaining share.
I think the market would quickly take care of this issue, and if Amazon got too big/powerful for the market to be able to realistically vote with their wallet/feet, then it's fair game to talk about breaking up Amazon at that point.
