New York law defines homicide as "conduct which causes the death of

a person," where "person, when referring to the victim of a homicide, means a human being who has been born and alive." It is therefore illegal in NY to kill a baby that has been born alive, whether by screwdriver or any other means.

There are no laws in this country that allow someone to murder a baby that has been born alive. Northam's (and others') comments have referred to a situation in which a non-viable baby was born, and the parents (and doctor) must decide to do nothing or take action to intervene.

Taking action to intervene is not about killing the baby, but rather doing the opposite: without intervention to artificially prolong the baby's life on life support for a short period of time, the baby will die on its own. The "discussion" as mentioned by Northam, is not deciding whether or not to kill the baby, because killing the baby is clearly homicide under the law. The "discussion" is what, if any, steps the parents want to take to artificially prolong the baby's life on life support, and potentially what can be done to ease the baby's pain and suffering as it it dying.

If I recall correctly, the NY law requires only 1 doctor to sign off on a late term abortion. It is absolutely fair, for example, to argue against that and say there should be more hoops to jump through to get a late term abortion. And absolutely fair to have debates on other aspects of late term abortion.

But it is just NOT TRUE that there are laws anywhere in this country, or that anyone is trying to pass laws anywhere in this country, that would make it legal to kill a baby that has already been born. That is clearly murder and therefore illegal, and NY homicide law definitions are obvious on that point.

Saying that doctors (or anyone) can actually murder babies that have already been born is just showing that you have fallen for propaganda and have chosen to spread propaganda that is flat out false.
