I will mostly agree with you. Most beans don't get planted until June in
Virginia. Va Tech does have records of yields planted in May so it is impossible to say what the neighbors plant and when.
In fact, in southern Virginia and on The Shore, many beans follow the wheat harvest in late June and are planted in wheat stubble.
It is rare for beans to be planted right after beans because of the need to break disease cycle per rotation.
All that said, Trump is helping devastate farm income (beans are trading nearby delivery in Chicago UNDER $8.00. Most farmers will lost money on beans. A lot of money. One out of three rows of beans were going into the Chinese market. There is simply zero substitute markets. If one lets the land lie fallow, there is zero cash flow for property taxes and payments on equipment and mortgages. So they'll plant and eat equity. Some won't have enough next year when they meet with their lenders.
