Most people also don't have mutual funds or retirement accounts.
Even so, apples and oranges.
If Granny were rich and owned say 1% of the funds she is invested in, and those funds had 10% of the stock shares that were appreciating(say 50%) from the buybacks, then her increase would be .001% of the increase(.0005%). Of course, the overhead fees she pays to be in those funds will swallow that up. We have to make sure the guardians get their share.
If Warren Buffett has shares of those companies that are appreciating, then his increase is 50%. So, apples and oranges even though this is just one very rich theoretical Granny. Our theoretical Warren Buffett would still be doing better than 1000 theoretical Grannies put together in a theoretical quilting convention.
Moral of the story... Warren Buffet could easily corner the quilting convention market if he wanted, so watch out.
