I listened to the review board thing out of curiosity for the process... cringed listening to it. He's on the spectrum and in unfamiliar territory. He needed an advocate who understood him who could help him navigate this process. I met a few people like him while my wife was in med school and residency. I've taught a few kids like him. In the right specialty, he can be a good doctor. Not a surprise that he wanted to know how his behaviors were inappropriate... what do we know about people on the spectrum? Social cues are an issue. Doesn't get that snapping a photo of the review board (and tweeting it) is a bad idea. Doesn't get that staring at his phone and searching for emails for several minutes was a bad idea. Doesn't get that arguing about the usage of the word 'recommend' was a bad idea. Not a bad kid, but a kid who could use some help understanding his strengths and weaknesses.
