hoothat - I don't recall any McCain posts. Just an observation - outside of politics, you're tipping your hat for minimally acceptable behavior. Even in the case of less accomplished people than McCain, it goes without saying that we'll keep our negative feelings about the recently deceased to ourselves during the mourning period. Most of us think it appropriate to show respect for the life just lost, even if we thought flaws outweighed strengths of that life (personally, I'm counting on that generosity when I go).

Not in politics though. Dems booing repubs at the Wellstone funeral, literally costing them a senate seat. And I've seen a lot of that here among Trumpies. They defend the shaky nature of their orange hero's winding path to appropriate respect (he did get there in the end, to give credit). And then question the rights of anyone who once opposed McCain to mourn him respectfully now.

I don't know if it will cost them like the Wellstone affair cost the dems - it's not as inflammatory as booing at an actual funeral. Repubs did not boo O or Bill when they approached the podium. McCain made sure his send off wouldn't be that kind of affair. The whole day yesterday ultimately showed that the simple human act of marking the loss of a life can transcend politics.
