What seems to be going on is like a play seen only once a game in football.

A right-handed QB will roll out to his right with an entourage, past where the TE was lined up. Everyone in the stadium is following him, the defense, the fans, the TV cameras, etc. What they fail to observe is that the WR on the far side of the field has let his man chase the play and is standing all alone with nothing but green between him and the end zone. Suddenly, the QB stops, turns, and throws back to the WR, who basically walks in for the TD. And everyone watching the game goes, “Wow, I never saw that coming!”

In my parable, the QB is Mueller and the WR is the Southern District of NY who has Cohen’s books.
