I disagree, and I'm a decades long NYT reader.


I don't think you need to talk about doubling down on your honesty, integrity, and objectivity unless you are acknowledging on some level that you fell down there. They did not cover Trump impartially - few opposed his candidacy any stronger than I, but I found some of their front page Trump stuff to be barely disguised hit pieces. To an extent same can be said of their treatment of the Bern during the primaries. Which is why they feel a need to assure us subscribers that objectivity will rule the day in reporting on the coming Trump Admin.

At its core it was a marketing piece - they are afraid that they are losing or about to lose subscribers - and I have spoken to quite a number who've decided to walk, in disgust. So he isn't about to say "boy did we suck" but there is an implicit mea culpa.
