Arguably more 'necessary' for us than it is for France, England, Germany...

...etc, etc., given that the diversity is really a part of who we are as a nation, as opposed to very much the converse in Europe, which explains some of the extreme culture shock over there in many places (dwarfing, I would posit, our own in many respects, at least insofar as immigration is concerned). I suppose the question then, for us, is "Do we want to continue to be 'that nation.'"
