Conservatives in recent years have gone all in on Machiavellian tactics and fearmongering to trick certain demographics into voting for them by stressing trivial social issues, tones of racism, and culture wars . As well as using,the point you just made about liberals thinking theyre superior to "all you dumb bumpkins in real America." Yes, we give them plemty of ammo on the last point. But conservatives sure as heck arent majoritarian -- they are all about economic policies that heavily favor the elite and that is always their focus. And even when they feign populism it's more or less targeted to a single demographic -- aging white people. Not exactly representing the majority in a highly diverse country.

Liberals OTOH do represent the "majority" of the country economically, at least a lot better than the conservatives do. They also represent women, minorities, and young people as well as urban/suburban types. Economically the liberals do work for the working class too. That is the majority.

Branding sucks and we fall into the trap of getting frustrated and playing into the stereotype youre using here (guilty) but the notion that the Republicans are a real working class party should be laughable. The irony is they are just far better at insulting the working class's intelligence than we liberals could ever dream of being.
