When there are people defecting, it isn't from the US to China. But it does happen the other way around. And Americans don't hatch schemes to have their children born in China, so their kids can be Chinese citizens. There is a whole cottage industry in China around doing just that with Chinese babies - setting it up so that mom is in the US around delivery date.

These are important indicators - the way people actually behave - rather than just looking at stats, especially when the generation of those stats is little better than a black box.
