True story from Sunday
not that impactful, but I found it slightly amusing:
My family has a tradition on Sunday that we take out from the same Upper East side sushi bar. Typically I go there and order, then go across the street for a beer while the restaurant prepares the food.
So on Sunday after ordering, I go across for a beer but this time choose a pub next to my local, and there is just a total smoke show bartender working . The bar is full of forty to fifty year old gawking men (like myself I suppose): this bartender knows what she is doing - she treats them all like kings and it is pretty clear most are regulars.
I start eavesdropping on the conversation between her and the 50 something year old next to me who arrived after me and ordered a double patron on the rocks. According to him, he has been in the papers all last week because of "this bullshit de Blasio witch-hunt. They are really coming after us" (For those who don't follow NYC politics, se-Blasio and his cronies - of which this guy was clearly one - are getting mired in a significant corruption scandal that has promise to take him down). In his Long Island accent, this guys keeps going on and on about how the whole thing is bogus, everybody is clean, etc.
After he finishes his one drink, I see him slip the bartender a $100 bill. I imagine a double patron at this place probably costs $15. She turns to the cash register and the guy almost jumps off his stool to get her attention. Before she can ring up the bill, she comes back over and I hear him tell her "don't you dare touch that register! this is for you." She puts the bill nest to the register and after about 10 minutes slides it into her pocket.
Just more confirmation about the cesspool that is NY politics. And I abhor De Blasio, on a "molecular level."
