Not sure what you're referring to but I'm not convinced that putting a tent
on a lawn is "occupying private property" or that having a tent city on the lawn is a punishable "denying access" to that lawn. If they occupied classrooms or administration buildings, or blocked building entrances that's very different.
I think whatever published school policy was before all this should be followed. If a student would have been kicked out for peeing in public on the way home from a frat party then so be it in these cases as well, but there shouldn't be some draconian reinterpretation or reapplication of rules just for this.
