…made zero comments whatsoever about what is best for women, nor have they claimed to know the answer to that question, nor is abortion even about “what is best for woken”.

SCOTUS can't "give the state control" of anything. State power comes from the people of that state who gave it to the state. If some people want a control on abortion to protect unborn life, then they can pursue that via the democratic process. People who don't care about unborn life can pursue their interests democratically, as well. And that's how the matter gets decided in a free country. Not by judges in robes (regardless of party), thank God.
