I think most people that are paying attention believe that the numbers
are not sustainable and the processes we have for submitting asylum requests and adjudicating those just aren't working for us. The legal underpinnings go back to when we wanted to attract people fleeing the Eastern Block. Clearly a different world now, something the various border security bills would have addressed to some degree but our leaders decided to ignore.
It is a problem. I'm guessing we feel it more acutely in some markets v others, but we need reform. I also think people do buy into some of the right wing rhetoric, some of which is rooted in reality but generally spun to make people fearful about their jobs, safety, etc.
The Dems should ignore it at their own risk. But I also agree that inflation tends to hit a little closer to home for everyday Americans.
