Grading For Equity is going to be the new Common Core. We're gonna see a bunch of anecdotes that start with 'My teacher friend told me they had to (something stupid) because of Grading For Equity'. The something stupid might have happened, but it has nothing to do with Grading for Equity or Common Core.

The tl;dr version of Grading for Equity is that your physics grade should be based on how well you know physics. If you think the ed system is going downhill because of all the fluff, grading for equity is for you. It calls bullshit on things like class participation grades and junk extra-credit.

The touchy-feely part is they advocate for more retesting. It's a tough question. If I'm hiring a welder from the local trade school, I want the kid that can make an A+ weld today. If he was making C welds three months ago, IDGAF. I want him over the kid who has done A- welds all year. A traditional grading system might average his C and A+ welds and suggest he was worse than the A- kid. Grading for equity would tell the kid 'If you've gotten better, you can come retake the test and show you're an A+ welder'.
