The Layla Sessions found Clapton and Allman at the top of respective games. Add to that some extraordinary material to work with other good musicians. I suspect Allman approached this almost like another session musician gig, like before the formation of ABB. By that time his legacy was made and playing with Clapton was just another jewel in the crown so to speak.
