That day was a nightmare
As years passed, I had become numb to the horror of that day. I don’t know for sure why the memories from then are hitting me so hard this year. Perhaps it’s the turmoil, violence, and war across the world.
My son was a freshman at VT in their Corps of Cadets back then. Happenstance placed him way too close to the gunfire at Norris Hall. I was an elementary school instructional technology resource teacher and was working on a class project in a tiny school library media room.
A friend alerted me about the ongoing situation, and I immediately pulled up a police scanner site and heard things no one ever wants to hear.
I kept trying to get my son on the phone, but long minutes passed with no word. Finally, I got word from him. I’ve linked what I wrote on my blog later that day. (I shared this years ago with my Hokie brothers and sisters on TSL) [Post edited by Newt at 04/16/2024 08:37AM]
