NAIA is an interesting assortment. Got some very conservative schools as members, some satellite campuses of big State U's, and some tree-hugger schools in the woods. Heavily midwestern, almost non-existent on the east coach outside of Georgia and Florida.

Unlike NCAA DIII, they can give athletic scholarships. About 95 of their ~250 member schools offer football, though they have a scholarship limit of 24 for those teams. Some of the member schools keep the lights on via athletics, with over 50% of students on team rosters. Anecdotally, one buddy who coached briefly at an NAIA school expressed to me that he would have been better off going 0-20 with a 35 man roster than finishing second in the conference with a 19 man roster.
