I don't think that type of moderate is a big enough contingent to get going

though at least with regard Bloomberg. It seems like there'd have to be one or a couple 'core' issues an 'outsider' seized on to build something, pretty much what Trump did with immigration and trade. But in the wake of Trump, realignment kind of hit where the R direction changed, and Ds as well in response to Sanders. Bloomberg, Romney, I think Trump kind of showed that at least for now there's not much appetite for that type of candidate- in certain locales there definitely would be but not enough nationally to form an energized movement around 'moderation'.
